Ag Technician II

The Agricultural Technology program prepares students for occupations in a wide variety of jobs in agriculture (both production and value-added) with a range of skills and knowledge.

The curriculum addresses concepts in theory, skills and techniques that are required by the agriculture industry.  It will use hands-on strategies, which require an integrated practicum across a variety of settings.  Graduates will seek job opportunities in the agriculture industry on commercial farms and businesses related to the agriculture industry.

 Program Competencies: Agricultural Technician II

1.        Communicate effectively using standard written English.

2.        Communicate in a clear oral and non-verbal fashion and employ active listening skills.

3.        Demonstrate basic skills in computer operations and/or software applications.

4.        Organize, analyze, and make information useful by employing mathematics.

5.        Analyze and interpret current issues and trends in agriculture industry.

6.        Develop an agriculture career plan.

7.        Demonstrate steps in determining the soil pH factor and describe its influence on the growth of plants.

8.        Make choices regarding the different forms of fertilizer, their characteristics and applications.

9.        Demonstrate operation, discuss safety, and perform adjustments and minor repairs of equipment used for tilling, planting and harvesting.

10.     Perform calculations for land measurements, chemical formulations and storage capacities.

11.     Perform preventive and minor maintenance on farm equipment, machines, and engines.

12.     Identify small engine theory.

13.     Demonstrate basic working knowledge of welding.

14.     Describe at an introductory level, equipment power sources and units.

15.     Identify factors influencing production performance.

16.     Demonstrate a  knowledge, at the introductory level, of basic wiring, electrical circuits and controls, electric motors, and electrical generation and distribution
