OCTC@OMHS

OCTC@OMHS is a work-based associate degree nursing program created for Owensboro Medical Health System employees. This accelerated and flexible degree option is expected to help the hospital train the work force it needs as it moves forward with an expansion that will require more than 500 additional nurses over a five year period.

This nursing degree option is made possible in part through a three-year, $432,000 grant awarded to Owensboro Community and Technical College from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in conjunction with the Hitachi Foundation. The program retools both the pre-nursing and RN curriculum through the use of online, hybrid, and traditional course delivery at the work site. Wherever possible, general education course requirements are re-engineered to offer participants greater relevance through contextualization and/or via “paired” delivery with related nursing coursework.
