CLASS PARTICIPATION/ATTENDANCE:
This is a performance oriented course and attendance/participation are an essential element of the evaluation process. Prompt attendance is required for all classes. Extreme lateness will result in attendance credit lost (15 minutes or more).

CELL PHONES: Either leave them in your car or turn them off FULLY. If YOUR phone goes off during a student speech or one of my lectures you will automatically lose 15 points off your grade for each occurrence.
ASSIGNMENTS AND GRADING:
You will perform 5 graded oral presentations during the semester. Most speeches will be graded on a 100 point scale (see below). There will be a midterm and a final exam covering material from the textbook, class lectures, and current events. Speech assignments must be performed on the days scheduled. Students who are not prepared to speak lose one full letter grade from their eventual grade up to a maximum of two missed performance dates. After two missed performance dates, the student receives a “0” and cannot perform unless given special permission by the instructor or the student appeals committee.
MAKEUP POLICIES FOR SPEECHES:
Students who miss a speech may petition the appeals committee to be heard or receive an “E.” We will run on a very tight schedule and repeated missed presentations cannot be tolerated.
MAKE-UP TESTS
No make-up tests will be allowed after a quiz, test, or exam has been conducted. Tests and quizzes may be taken earlier than scheduled if arrangements are made in advance with the instructor.
LATE WORK
NO work will be accepted for full credit beyond the due date. Thereafter, written assignments turned in after the date due will receive a 10% deduction per day from the assigned final grade. You scored an 85-10 (2 days late)=65 final grade.
Work that is a week(two or more class periods) or more late will receive an automatic grade of “0.”
STUDENT APPEALS COMMITTEE
The Student Appeals Committee will consider student appeals for missed assignments (except tests) and speech grade penalties. Volunteers may choose to serve on this committee. Members receive 10 extra credit points for serving all semester. No out of class meetings are required.

Self Evaluation(100 Points)
Your task is to write a 3-4 page, typed and double-spaced review of your development as a speaker during the past semester.
Basic guidelines:
*Open the paper with a well developed paragraph highlighting how you felt about public speaking at the beginning of the semester.
*Write fully developed paragraphs evaluating and analyzing your last four performances in the areas of strengths (paragraph one) and areas to improve upon (paragraph 2).
*Analyze your performances for the first four speeches including:
______________, ____________________, ____________________, and the _____________________.
*Utilize your previous collections of speech critiques from the teacher and your classmates to evaluate your progress in all of the major areas featured on the critique form.
* The paper must be typed, stapled, and proof read so it contains proper grammar, syntax, and spelling.
*From a grading perspective, more detail is better than less.
* Conclude with a paragraph summarizing how you now feel about your ability to speak in public now that the semester is concluding.
