Guidelines for Enjoying Success in Online Public Speaking

1)      Email me once a week with an update on your progress. This simple task is worth 5 points per week and lets me know you are still enrolled and engaged in the class.  Email me at bobj.glenn@kctcs.edu or bobholly@omuonline.net

2)      Complete discussion board posts weekly on the Thinkwell website, these range in value from 10 to 30 points and are a major part of your grade.

3)      After reviewing chapters in each module (by viewing or reading a text version of the lectures) take the accompanying module exams in a timely manner.  You may retake the first 4 exams as many times as you want, but the final may only be taken once.

4)      Do not treat the course as an independent study you intend to get to “when you have time.” Keep up to date with emails, discussion boards, and preparation for upcoming speeches. Email or call me if you have questions about any particular item or issue.

5)      Look for mass emails to answer questions from multiple students.

6)      Be prepared to speak during the week a speech is due. If you cannot attend the scheduled “come and go” speech sessions then make arrangements to come to one of my classes to perform.

7)      Try not to be terrified of public speaking. Everyone feels a little ill at ease at times, but once you get comfortable with your classmates your nervousness should become more manageable..

8)      If you into technical problems with the website or CD call Thinkwell after trying to trouble shoot it using the FAQ sections on the website.

9)      Chapter notes may be printed out in lieu of viewing all of the disk framed lectures.

Good Luck! I hope we all enjoy a fun and educational semester together!

Online Public Speaking Self Evaluation Paper (100 Points)

Your task is to write a 2-3 page, typed and double-spaced review of your development as a speaker during the past semester.

 Basic guidelines:

*Open the paper with a well developed paragraph highlighting how you felt about public speaking at the beginning of the semester.

*Write fully developed paragraphs evaluating and analyzing your last four performances in the areas of strengths (paragraph one) and areas to improve upon (paragraph 2).

*Analyze your performances for the first four speeches including:

______________, ____________________, ____________________, and the _____________________.

*Utilize your previous collections of speech critiques from the teacher and your classmates to evaluate your progress in all of the major areas featured on the critique form.

* The paper must be typed, stapled, and proof read so it contains proper grammar, syntax, and spelling.

*From a grading perspective, more detail is better than less.

* Conclude with a paragraph  which summarizes how you feel about your ability to speak in public now that the semester is concluding.
