C.  Professional Experience

 

            Professor of Communication, Owensboro Community College

            Owensboro, Kentucky

1990-Present

Duties: Teach a variety of communication courses including public speaking, interpersonal communication, argumentation & debate, small group communication and  intercollegiate forensics.  Direct and coach very successful community college forensics program. Provide academic advising for students.  Serve on college and system committees, actively participate in CE/CS programs, and engage in significant professional development activities on the state, regional, and national level.  Serve as a member of several local committees and as an elected member of the KCTCS Faculty Senate rules committee.   Advise over 40 undecided students a semester and keep abreast of changes in system policy concerning transfer requirements.

 

 

Other OCTC Duties

 

-Director,  OCC Speech and Debate Team. Coach students, attend tournaments

throughout  the Southeast and Midwest, and host BBQ Capital Speech Tournament each fall

-KCTCS Faculty Senator (Two Terms 2000-2004)

 

-Chaired Gender Equity Committee (1997-2000)  which hosted several well received workplace education training programs for  three years.

 

-Chair, CE/CS Committee (1995-96).

 

-Trained as a Kentucky Quality Council examiner and successfully completed evaluations of Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District, Fall 2000 and Dana Perfect Circle Ring Unit (Franklin, KY), Fall 2002. .

-Squad finished among the top fifty debate programs in the nation

            Duties:  Co-directed the award winning and nationally recognized

            SMS Debate program while teaching three classes per semester.

-Squad placed 8th in the nation during the 1886-87 season and was the only school to advance two teams among the top 16 teams at the national tournament.

-Squad earned top sweepstakes awards at four tournaments throughout the season.

Duties: Taught two sections of public speaking each semester. Founded and directed debate program which placed among the top 50 programs in CEDA in 1984 and 1985.  Teams won more than 100 awards during both seasons and was recognized at the Best New Debate Program in the Nation in 1984.
