Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education program at Owensboro Community and Technical College is designed to provide you with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development for working with young children. Opportunities to apply this knowledge in practical experiences are incorporated in the curriculum. Curriculum topics include, but are not limited to developmental ages and stages, health and safety, curriculum planning, assessment and family involvement.

Available Credentials

Associate in Applied Science (AAS)

  • Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education: 66-67 credit hours

Certificate

  • Child Care Assistant: 9 credit hours
  • Early Childhood Administrator: 12 credit hours
  • Kentucky Child Care Provider: 3 credit hours

Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities for persons with a CDA credential or an AAS degree are available in public and private preschools, Early Start, Head Start, early intervention programs, and corporate-sponsored child care facilities.

Admission Requirements

This program has no special admission requirements.

Length of Program

The program can be completed in two years if you take 15 to 18 credit hours per semester. General education classes should be taken along with curriculum classes.
