The Medical Option program is an integrated program that will prepare you at the certificate and associate degree level. As a Health Information Technician, you'll use classification manuals, computer software, and your knowledge of disease processes to assign patients to one of several hundred codes for reimbursement by Medicare or other insurance programs. As a Medical Transcriptionist, you'll listen to dictated recordings made by physicians and transcribe them into medical reports, correspondence, and other administrative material.

Job opportunities will be good for medical transcription and medical coding as the fields are expected to grow. Average median annual earnings of medical health information technicians were $25,590 in 2006.
