IE Committee Subteam Brown Bag Data Analysis May 6, 2004
Method
A qualitative data inductive analysis was utilized. Inductive analysis identifies patterns, themes, and categories that emerge from the data rather than being imposed on them prior to data collection and analysis (Patton, 396).
Results
The analysis identified the following three primary analyst-constructed typologies with category systems emerging within each typology:
--Learning and Learning Climate --Access and Services provided to Students --Connectivity
The following categories within each typology emerged, the tally of comments made in the opening round-robin are in parentheses.
Learning and Learning Climate
--Life-long learning (72) --Assessment and Expectations (13) --Technology (13) --Student Motivation, Responsibility for Learning, Engagement (12) --Teaching and Professional Development (5) --Character and Ethics (5) --Interdisciplinary approaches (6)
Access and Services provided to Students
--Barriers (6) --Delivery Options (9) --Student Supports (11)
Connectivity
--External Connections, Partnerships, Community (8) --Internal Connections, Communication, Stakeholder Involvement (12)
