Using the InfoTrac Databases

 

 

Expanded Academic ASAP is a general academic database providing over 6,300,000 articles (many of them full-text). Coverage is from 1980. It is updated daily.

1. Go to the library’s homepage at http://www.octc.kctcs.edu/library

2. Choose Databases.

3. Choose InfoTrac databases from the list.

4. Click on database you want to search.

Keyword Search

1. Type your search term(s) in the entry box. If using more than one word, link them together with the word "and" or put them in quotation marks to search for them as a phrase.

2. You may limit to articles with full text, to scholarly (or refereed) publications, to specific journals, and /or specific dates.

3. Click on the Search button.

4. Under each title will be a link to the text of the article or to the citation or abstract of the articles. Some may say text with graphics. Click on that link for the information.

5. To print articles, click on print button at left of article. This will open the print box. Click print.

6. To return to your list of articles you may click the Back browser button. Or, on the left of the screen, scroll down and choose Back to… Citations. Or click Search to do a new search.

Advanced Search

1. To search in a specific field choose Advanced Search.

2. Select an index from the pull-down menu, such as title, subject, or author.

3. Click in the entry box. Enter your search term(s). If using more than one word, link them together with the word "and" or put them in quotation marks to search for them as a phrase.

4. Select any limits you want to apply.

5. Click on Search.

Subject Guide Search

1. Use the Subject Guide when you want to do a more precise search or just want to browse topics.

2. Click on Subject Guide.

3. Enter your general topic (for example "music") in the entry box and click on search.
