Distance Learner Services:
The services below are for those distance learning students
taking online classes at OCTC and are unable to come to our campuses, including
those students taking classes in Hancock, McLean, and Ohio counties.
We want to
make your learning experience as pleasant as possible; therefore, we offer the
following services that may be helpful. We ask that you contact us with your
needs and or questions by using the following links to the various sources of
information.
You should receive an email regarding this information at
the beginning of the semester.
Set Up My Library Account
Use this quick and easy form to request that your
library account be created so you will be a registered patron of the library and
receive a barcode that will give you access to our many different resources.
Request IDs and Passwords to Access Articles
Databases
IDs and passwords are required to access the
databases off campus. You must be a student to use the databases, so you will
need to identify yourself with your name, address, and phone number, as well as
either your student ID number or your library barcode
number. A few of the databases are not available off campus. Please note that
the passwords are
changed each semester.
Find Articles
Find the articles you need in the various databases offered by OCTC. We
have over 5500 full-text journals and magazines accessible from our web site. If
you are not sure which database to use, start with the blue "What Database to
Use" button on the databases page.
Find Books
The OCTC library catalog is available online, and
will allow you to search and find books of interest to you. For help in
searching more effectively, see the research guide on searching the Voyager
Online Catalog.
Request Books
For students living in Kentucky, books you find in
our catalog can be sent to the library nearest to your home for you to borrow.
Just send us the requested information and we will do the rest.
E-books
Please use the Ask the Librarian link below to
request that your E-books account be created, so you can use this resource of

Evaluating
Internet Sites 101
Most
of the information on the Internet has not been reviewed or edited like more
traditional information found in books, magazines, videos, etc. The content of a
web site does not have to be approved by anyone for accuracy, objectivity, etc.
Therefore you have to be the one to judge the quality of the Internet
information you find. This tutorial will help you in evaluating an Internet site
that you find and want to use in your research paper or other assignment. |
