COMPASS is a computerized college placement test from the ACT organization. As do many states, the Commonwealth of Kentucky mandates COMPASS for most community and technical college students, though some students are subject to exemptions. The COMPASS placement test covers math, writing (English), and reading. The COMPASS program draws on a pool of more than 2,400 test items, plus adjusts the difficulty level of each test to the skills and expertise of the individuals taking the test, thus avoiding presenting items that contribute little to measurement.
