NAVIGATING THE READING TEST

In the actual COMPASS placement test, passages will appear on the left side of your computer screen. You will click on the "more" buttons to scroll up and down the passages.

On the right side of your screen, you will see questions about the passages. It will help you to read those questions before you start reading the passage/s.

Below the questions you will see boxes containing such numbers as 1, 2, or 3 (or more).  After you click on your chosen answer, a green check mark will appear in the "1" box at the bottom of the screen.

At that time, click on the "2" box to bring up more multiple choice questions.  When there are no more empty boxes at the bottom, you can keep going back and forth between the boxes to double check your answers and to change them if you wish, or you can click on "Go On."   However, once you click on "Go On," you cannot go back and change anything.

As with all parts of the COMPASS test, the reading portion is adaptive.  The program responds to how you answer the questions.  The computer will give you more passages/questions or fewer passages/ questions until COMPASS can determine your skill level.
