MATH

The Teaching and Learning Center staff offers both one-on-one and group tutoring.  Schedules are available for pick up in the Center, while the TLC bulletin board  posts the tutors and their hours, as well as any changes.  In addition, the Teaching and Learning Center provides the following resources for students wanting aid in math.

SkillsTutor - Internet Based Program

One of our most successful programs is the internet based program titled SkillsTutor.  It features math from the lower level through Algebra 1.  To use SkillsTutor, students simply come to the Teaching and Learning Center to obtain a password and ID; they will learn how to use SkillsTutor at that time.

SkillsTutor can be used from any computer with the internet.  Students can use it at home, at a friend's house, in the public library, or in any of our college's computer labs.  (The only exception is when a student is using SkillsTutor to practice skills before retaking the placement test - COMPASS.  That remediation does have to be done in the Teaching and Learning Center.)

Not only does SkillsTutor feature math, but it also includes reading, writing (English), science, information skills, and consumer skills.  If you already have a password and ID, click here for SkillsTutor.

Tip Sheet:  Blank Math Note Taking Sheet

This tip sheet is an example of how to make study notes for math and is from the book Winning at Math, Your Guide to Learning Mathematics through Successful Study Skills, by Dr. Paul Nolting, Learning Specialist.  His book, in addition to Dr. Nolting's math study skills evaluation, is available for students' use in the Teaching and Learning Center.

Math Internet Links

In an attempt to serve our distance learners, we have listed internet links for different math levels.  The following sites can be used in the TLC in conjunction with tutors, our other resources, or can be accessed through the internet when students are unable to come into the TLC.
