EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

The following internet links are provided for those student taking early childhood development courses, as well as students interested in children, families, and their welfare.
  • Beach Center - University of Kansas.  Check out the newsletters for information on family centered practices and positive behavioral supports.
  • Child Care Bureau - This site provides information on the Child Care and Development Fund, links to other Administration-on Children-and-Families sites, and other information within the Department of Health and Human Services, with links to other related child care sites.
  • Children, Youth, and Family Consortium - This resource site of the University of Minnesota contains links to other useful web sites organized by categories, chat groups, focused information on topics - such as father involvement and work and family issues - and general information on children and families.
  • Circle of Inclusion - The Circle of Inclusion Web Site is for early childhood service providers and families of young children. This web site offers demonstrations of and information about the effective practices of inclusive educational programs for children from birth through age eight. 
  • Early Childhood Center - A compilation of many early childhood sites.  Created by Education World, the site celebrates and supports the creativity and dedication of those participating in the education of young children.
  • Effective Behavior Support - The Effective Behavior Support (EBS) approach provides a process and structure for enhancing the adoption and sustained use of research validated school-wide discipline practices.
  • Electronic Policy Network - A resource site with information and links to national organizations working in child and family policy, welfare reform, health policy, and economic research.
  • Family Village - Click on the "library" icon.  Then, click on "card catalog".  Pick a specific diagnosis and follow it on.
  • Healthfinder - Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, this site will help you find authoritative government and nonprofit groups concerned with specific diseases and conditions.
  • Idea Box - Early Childhood Ed and Activities
  • IDEA Practices - This site answers your questions about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, keeps you informed about IDEAs That Work, and supports your efforts to help ALL children learn, progress, and realize their dreams. (Behavior ideas)
  • Inclusion Resources - This site has lots of links to other sites with information on specific disabilities and support for parents and teachers.
  • The International Society on Infant Studies - The International Society on Infant Studies is a not-for-profit professional organization devoted to the promotion and dissemination of research on the development of infants through its official journal and a biennial conference where researchers and practitioners gather and discuss the latest research and theory in infant development. Membership in the Society is open to anyone with an advanced degree in any discipline related to infant development. (Good neurological information and a link to the March of Dimes.)
  • Kids Health - Offers up-to-date information about childhood diseases, infections, and more.
  • Mayo Health Oasis - Operated by the renowned Mayo Clinic.  Draws on the resources of its world-class staff and is updated on a daily basis.
  • Medem - As of June 30, 2000, Medem started providing a children's health news e-mail service, including the latest scientific pediatric news from our partner medical societies.
  • MedScape - An online, peer-reviewed medical site covering a variety of topics.  It now includes CBSHealthWatch.com
  • National Child Care Information Center - The site is sponsored by the Child Care Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, and the Department of Health and Human Services.  It provides a central point for child care related information.  It also includes links to other organizations and provides full-text documents.
  • National Library of Medicine - Provides access to PubMed, the world's largest collection of medical information, featuring more than nine million references from medical journals around the world.
  • Oncolink - The University of Pennsylvania's respected site on cancer therapies.
  • Pediatric Institute - This site is by Johnson & Johnson and is for parents and professionals.
  • The Preventive Ounce - This interactive web site lets you see more clearly your child's temperament, and find parenting tactics that work for your child.
  • Stories to Grow By - fun, free, upbeat, kid-tested stories with non-sectarian positive messages.  There are sections for kids, parents, and teachers.  Click on the castle to enter.
  • Teacher Resources on the Internet from the Federal Government - This site offers information on the executive branch of government, the White House and the first family, tours and publications. Also, there are audio welcome messages from the President and Vice President.  It provides access to White House press releases, including texts of briefings, executive orders, proclamations and remarks.  Plus, there are speeches and major policy documents.
