Duties -
  • directs all of the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) staff
  • directs OCTC's Main Campus placement testing
  • directs OCTC's tutoring program
  • directs research and maintenance of department websites
  • directs all the activities of the TLC
  • works in the Center as an English tutor
  • works in other TLC areas with students and staff
  • facilitates lab assignments for specific courses
  • researches and designs special projects for the TLC
  • researches and prepares special reports
  • reviews and recommends software and materials for the TLC
  • signs students up on SkillsTutor, assists in its use, and runs reports, as needed
  • assists students in use of SkillsTutor
  • helps design and lead workshops
  • teaches English to students who COMPASS test into  TLC/English
  • implements department advertising
  • as needed, administers the placement tests to all incoming students
  • participates in numerous council and committee meetings and
  • serves as the Center's public relations representative with the campus and the community

JELAINE MCCAMISH - Instructional Specialist/Adult Specialist I
Education -
  • 1975 Bachelor of Arts - 1. English and 2. Mass Communications (advertising, journalism, public relations, theory)

  • Started work on Masters - Western Kentucky University Extended Campus, Owensboro, KY

Duties -
  • tutors English, Study Skills, Learning Styles, Critical Thinking, Test-Taking Tips, Test Anxiety, Time Management, Windows, Word, PowerPoint, FrontPage, Publisher, and internet research
  • researches, writes, designs, and maintains the TLC website and the Tutor Training Website
  • facilitates COMPASS historical data
  • helps answer COMPASS questions
  • maintains COMPASS testing computers and helps trouble-shoot COMPASS computers
  • as needed, helps make COMPASS appointments, determination of status, input scores and service indicators, and file test results
  • helps facilitate ordering of COMPASS units
  • researches, compiles, and types semester reports for the Center
  • helps facilitates other testing conducted by the TLC
  • assists students in use of TLC resources
  • helps supervise the Center's activities
  • aids in coordinating the Tutoring Program
  • helps research and recommend academic and study skills software
  • helps facilitate lab assignments for specific courses
  • helps design special projects for the Center
  • helps design and lead workshops
  • presents GE 100 Learning Strategies sessions
  • helps students set up student e-mail accounts and explains the elements
  • assists in signing students up on SkillsTutor, assists in its use, and runs reports, as needed
  • works closely with Student Services on printing schedules and billing and

SHERRY LEE - Instructional Specialist I

  • tutors Windows, Word, Access, Excel, JAVA, and PowerPoint
  • responsible for the TLC's computer maintenance and trouble-shooting
  • helps with  trouble-shooting COMPASS computers
  • responsible for working with technical support
  • designs and maintains departmental advertising
  • as needed, helps make COMPASS appointments, determination of status, input scores and service indicators, and file test results
  • helps supervise the Center's activities
  • helps research and recommend academic software
  • helps students set up student e-mail accounts
  • assists students in use of TLC resources
  • helps proctor make-up tests
  • helps supervise tutors and student workers
  • helps facilitate lab assignments for specific courses
  • helps design TLC projects and workshops
  • signs students up on SkillsTutor, assists in its use, and runs reports, as needed
  • responsible for SkillsTutor report
  • assists students in use of TLC resources
  • helps answer COMPASS questions

DAVID POWERS - Teaching and Learning Specialist Program Facilitator
Education -
  • 1995 Bachelor of Arts, Major - Social Studies, Brescia College, Owensboro, KY 
  • Teaching Certification
  • Started work on Masters of Counseling, Western KY University Extended Campus, Owensboro, KY
Duties -
  • serves as liaison between the Teaching and Learning Center staff and the Title III grant staff
  • provides leadership in faculty and staff development
  • selects and develops instructional materials supporting on-going faculty and staff training
  • assists faculty with curriculum development and teaching strategies
  • trains faculty in techniques to use different learning styles in their classroom teaching
  • coordinates Title III workshops
  • coordinates Title III instructional activities
  • coordinates the academic needs assessment of incoming students
  • works with the Retention Intervention Specialist to track and respond to the results of the assessment as part of the EARLI system
  • works with the Title III Activity Director to assure that all Title III objectives are accomplished within the designated timelines
  • works with the TLC Director to coordinate the acquisition and use of computer assisted instruction for use in the TLC
  • works with the TLC Director to coordinate the acquisition and use of multimedia support materials for use in the TLC
  • provides technical and study skills support to students in the TLC and
  • participates in Title III meetings and campus committee meetings
